Nicky Ray Nichols

Nicky Ray Nichols, 72, of Elkin, North Carolina passed away at Novant Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina of a heart attack on October 27, 2026. Nicky was born in Surry County, North Carolina on February 9, 1954, to the late Alonzo Hardin and Ella Mae Nichols. Nicky graduated from Surry Central High School and Forsyth Tech College as a welder and pipe fitter, he later went to work for Tractor Supply in Elkin, where he retired after 20 years of service. Nicky enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Nicky was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Nichols; sisters, Nancy Ball, Betty Cave, and Nettie Norman. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cheryl Neese Nichols; brother-in-law, Sam Norman; nephews, Dennis (Cathy) Cave, Dale (Spring) Cave, Chris Norman, and Tony Stanley; nieces, Debbie (Steven) St. John, and Susan Norman; special friends, Charles Stanley, and Charman Mills; and feline buddies, Butter, Itzy, Gracie, and Shortie. Per Nicky’s request, there will be no formal services. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Surry County EMS for their hard work, as well as the 5th floor cardiologist, nurses, and CNA’s for their wonderful care of Nicky and his family.
