Nina Mae "Una" Tolbert Hawks

Mrs. Nina Mae "Una" Tolbert Hawks, 63, of 591 Laurel Springs Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008, at Golden Living Center, after an extended illness. Mrs. Hawks was born September 16, 1944, in Surry County, to the late Roy R. and Ada Mae Flippen Tolbert. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Billy Wayne Hawks of the home; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marie Booker and Louise and Stonie Dunbar, all of Mount Airy, and Ruby and Tom Houlden and Penny and Joe Fritts, all of Winston-Salem; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Linda Tolbert of Mount Airy; a foster brother and his spouse, George and Margaret Atkinson of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 19, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and Dr. Craig Edwards, and burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Marie Booker, 559 Laurel Springs Church Road, Mount Airy. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Delores Johnson and Carol Casstevens, for the love and compassion shown to Una during her illness.
