Obituary

Ms. Norma Lee Mangrum, age 77, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

She was preceded in death by her father, John B. Mangrum, and her mother, Minnie L. Mangrum. She is survived by her brother, Roger Mangrum, and his wife, Cathy. She also leaves behind two nephews and their families: Brad Mangrum and his wife, Monica, along with their daughter, Peyton; and Tracy Mangrum and his wife, Tammy, along with their son, Wesley Kruse.

A 1967 graduate of Woolwine High School, she initially began her career in the corporate offices of Bassett Furniture before discovering her true calling: shaping the lives of young children. For over 20 years, Norma dedicated herself to the elementary students of the Patrick County Public School system as a beloved teaching assistant, a role from which she retired in 2015. In her retirement, she loved reading the local newspaper, always beaming with pride whenever she saw her former students excelling in life.

Adventurous in her younger years, Norma loved exploring the United States alongside her Uncle Noel and Aunt Mildred. Among her travels, her absolute favorite destination was Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. This lifelong passion for Elvis became a cherished family tradition. Every Christmas, her nephews gifted her Elvis-themed memorabilia. Norma accepted each token with absolute grace and humor, never once complaining—even when she received the exact same item two years in a row.

In her later years, Norma filled her days with quiet comforts, including reading, solving crossword puzzles, and cherishing time spent with her family and closest friends. She was the proud great-aunt traveling by train to Northern Viriginia and Maryland so she wouldn’t miss her great-niece’s birthday parties.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, July 3rd, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. A separate celebration of life event will be planned for a later date to honor Norma's beautiful memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to The American Cancer Society. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
