Mr. Norris Thomas Hodge, 93, of Mount Airy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday night, July 2, 2024, from Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Hodge was born November 10, 1930, in Surry County, the son of the late Thomas Hulite “Tom” and Roxie Ella Scott Hodge. Norris retired from Cross Creek Apparel, where he met his soulmate and wife of 64 years, Josephine “Jo” Collins Hodge. They were married February 1, 1958, and she left for heaven March 5, 2022, now reunited for eternity. Norris was a kind and loving man that loved God. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, loved to sing in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and helped with other activities in the church. He enjoyed playing the piano, volunteering with the Yokefellow Ministry, and was an avid Tarheel fan. Left to cherish his memories are his loving nephews and nieces, Dale and Joyce Hardy, Roger and Dale Haymore, Larry and Jane Martin, the Rev. Steve and Becky Hardy, Bill and Judy Hardy, Brenda Collins, Carolyn Simmons, Junior Simpson, Johan and Patricia Vandepoll, Michael and Lisa Chapman, Tim Collins, Jeffrey Simpson, Scott Collins, and Richard Collins; his “special” grandchildren, Joshua and Michele Hardy and Justin and Sarah Sharpe; a “special” great-grandson, Noah Sharpe; and his lifelong friends, Owen and Sandra Stone. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine “Jo” Collins Hodge; a brother, Raymond (Jessie) Hodge; two sisters, Agnes (Clyde) Raines and Naomi (Monroe) Newman; and several nieces and nephews, Janette Shelton, Debbie (Tony) Shelton, Jerry Simpson, Gary (Bonnie) Collins, Judy (John) Bell, Sue Collins White, Mark Hardy, Mike (Paula) Collins, and Linda Simpson. A service of worship and celebration of Norris’ life will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin and the Rev. Steve Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by the staff at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center, Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King, and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Summer’s Youth Mission Trip” at Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
