Mrs. Opal Bruner Edmonds, 86, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Monday evening, June 23, 2014, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Edmonds was born October 14, 1927, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Charlie and Oda Wall Bruner. Opal was a homemaker and a member of Friendly Tabernacle Church on McBride Road in Mount Airy. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Polly and Tony Williams of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Kathy Edmonds of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Caryann Williams of Rural Hall, Keith and Holly Williams of Lavaca, AR, and Tabitha and Danny Presley of Mount Airy; seven great-grandchildren, Cherish Ely, Melissa Presley, Caleb Presley, Addison Williams, Andrew Williams, Sophia Williams, and Annsley Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edmonds was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Porter Edmonds; a son, Porter Ray Edmonds; three sisters, Bessie Johnson, Ida Edmonds, and Nancy Edmonds; and two brothers, Lacy Bruner and Floyd Bruner. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Friendly Tabernacle Church, with the Rev. J.L. Young, Dr. David Sparks, and the Rev. Michael Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of Polly and Tony Williams, 279 Miller Road, Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Hope Sechrist and Carol Casstevens. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
