Mrs. Opalene (Opie) McKeaver, 78, of Dobson, passed away Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025, at her home. Mrs. McKeaver was born June 20, 1947, in Surry County, to the late Albert R. White and Etta Hodges White. Opie grew up in the Dobson community and graduated from Surry Central High School in 1965. She worked for the State of North Carolina as a Deputy Clerk of Court and later as a teacher’s assistant in Surry County Schools for 30 years. Opie was very kind hearted, loving and caring and would do anything she could for loved ones and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister-in-law and aunt.
Opie is lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Steven McKeaver; her daughter-in-law, Pam Whitaker McKeaver; her 2 granddaughters and their husbands, Sydney McKeaver Coe and Hogan, Carrie McKeaver Creech and Alex; brothers-in-law, Danny Greenwood and Gary McKeaver; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKeaver was preceded in death by her beloved son Chris; and her sister, Doris Ann White Greenwood.
A funeral service will be held Friday, December 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson NC, with services conducted by Rev. Hank Belfield and Rev. Sean Joplin. Burial will follow in the Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of the service in the Moody-Davis Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 555 Twin Oaks Road, Elkin NC 28621.
