Owen George Barber

Mr. Owen George Barber age 88 of Mt Airy, NC. passed away Tuesday May 12, 2015 at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. Mr. Barber was born April 23, 1927 in Parish, NY. to the late Owen J. and Blanche Minckler Barber. He was a veteran of the US Navy; was a retired Supervisor with Nestle Candy Company and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as the Sunday school director and on many other various committees. Surviving is his wife Jeanette Moore Barber of the home, a step daughter Mary Ellen Bowman of Wilmington, a step son and his wife Nick and Debbie Jarrell of Mt. Airy, Six step grandchildren , Twelve step great grandchildren, brothers-in-law Tut and Shirley Hooker of Mt. Airy and Joe and Judy Moore of Mt. Airy, sisters-in-law Lorene Hooker of Williamsburg, VA., Magdalene and Darrell Lentini of Lexington, Kathleen Shackelford of Mt. Airy, Nancy Moore of Mt. Airy, and Peggy Moore of Mt. Airy, special friends Harold and Betty Jo McCraw of Mt. Airy and Kelly Goins and "girls" of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barber was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy Barber, and his first wife, Ruby Lee Barber. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Rusty Reed and Rev. Josh Summerlin, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military rites, conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday night 6 to 8 PM at the Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 137 Antioch Ave. Mt.
