Mr. Paul James Edwards, 83, of 129 Booker Street, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 7, 2015, at Golden Living Center. Mr. Edwards was born January 26, 1932, in Surry County, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Edwards, Sr. and Rebecca Elizabeth Tate Edwards. Paul worked as a cook in several local restaurants, including The Wagon Wheel Restaurant, and was a member of Genesis Full Gospel Church. He is survived by his wife, Lois Turman Edwards of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucretia and Garry Ayers of Cana, VA, and Nevada and Jesse Collins of Frederick, MD; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by five sisters, Lottie Morton, Nannie Tate, Velma Gwyn, Violet Edwards, and Ellen Ladd; and three brothers, Thomas Jefferson Edwards, Jr., Emmitt Edwards, and the Rev. Jesse Edwards. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
