Mrs. Pauline Miller McDonald, 94, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday morning, June 18, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia. Mrs. McDonald was born April 25, 1917, in Macon County, the third child born to the Rev. Hughey Osborne and Theodosia Jane Peek Miller. Pauline earned her bachelor's degree from High Point College, a master's degree from the Peabody Institute of Vanderbilt University, and a sixth-year degree in education and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She retired from Gaston County Schools as the supervisor for elementary schools. Mrs. McDonald was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia and a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honorary society of women educators. Pauline was an accomplished musician with a special love of piano and church music. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Lora McDonald Pigott (Ron) of Winter Haven, FL; three nieces, Norma Jean Miller Hall of High Point, Ivy Miller Head (Milton) of Mount Airy, and Margie Miller Payseur (Stephen) of Iron Station; a nephew, Roger Miller (Jan) of Thomasville; several great nieces and nephews; and a dear friend and neighbor, Kim Crain of Gastonia. Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Earnest McDonald; her parents, the Rev. Hughey Osborne and Theodosia Jane Peek Miller; and two brothers, the Rev. Herbert Preston Miller and Norman Emerson Miller. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Gastonia, with the Rev. Frank Herman officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM in the parlor of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lander's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1205 Long Shoals Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the McDonald family.
