Peggy Anne Smith Blalock

Peggy Anne Smith Blalock, 85, of Mount Airy, NC, went peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning, August 25, 2025, with her daughter and longtime caregiver, Donah, by her side.

Peggy was born on November 30, 1939, to the late Sherman Taylor Smith and Daisy Viola Hurst Smith.

She was the eldest of three children and was preceded in death by both, her brother, James Douglas Smith, and her sister and best friend, Barbara Christine Smith Holdaway.

Peggy’s greatest joy in life was the love and faithfulness of her God and His only Son, Jesus Christ. Having been saved at an early age, her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her through every season and inspiring all who knew her. She was a longtime member of Hunter’s Chapel Church in Ararat, VA.

Peggy was a graduate of Mount Airy High School in 1958. She had a God given talent for reading and writing.

While still in her 70’s, and, after retiring from Proctor-Silex, Peggy took a computer course at Surry Community College. She then completed several courses online and even made the dean’s list.

Peggy was preceded in death by her infant son, Joseph Christopher Self, a very special nephew, Douglas Anthony Smith, of Mount Airy. And, although they had been divorced for several years, Peggy was also preceded in death by her husband and father of her daughter, Donald Eugene Blalock. They remained friends throughout the years until his death in 2015.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories of Peggy, is her daughter, Donah Ashley Blalock, of the home. Her grandson, Adam Christian Campbell, of Mount Airy, and her granddaughter, Victoria Brooke Marsden of Marathon, Florida.

Peggy also leaves behind a great-granddaughter, Storm Lanai Campbell, of Mount Airy, whom she adored. Also, a very special niece, Wendy Nunn Odum, of Mount Airy, and many other special family members and friends.

Peggy will be remembered with much love, and her legacy of faith and devotion will live on with her family for generations to come.

One of her favorite passages was the 91st Psalm: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

A graveside service at Hunter’s Chapel Church, Ararat, VA., officiated by Pastor Joseph Easter, will be announced soon, for sometime in October
