Mrs. Peggy Jo Atkins Simmons, 80, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Surry County on June 23, 1933 to the late Caleb Winfrey and Pearl Belle Johnson Atkins. Mrs. Simmons was retired from Adelphia Cable and was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Myron David and Emma Simmons, William Mark and Susan Simmons, Mitchell Todd Simmons all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Brook and Matt Sutphin, Sarah Simmons and Fiancé Chris Snow, Molly Simmons, Brianna Simmons all of Mt. Airy; great grandchildren, Maison and Morgan Sutphin of Mt. Airy, Izabel and Tucker Snow of Dobson; sisters and brother-in-law, Pauline Younger, Jackie and J.B. Cave all of Mt. Airy; sister-in-law, Peggy Atkins of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, William "Hampton" Simmons; a sister, Faye Atkins Fowler; four brothers, Walter, Troy, Lonnie and Carl Atkins. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Union Hill Friends Meeting with Rev. Jake Penley and Rev. Fonda Younger officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the church. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Northern Hospital of Surry County and the staff of Twelve Oaks for the love and care given to their mother.
