Mr. Phillip Duane Edwards, 56, of Lowgap, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2023, at his home.  He was born on October 28, 1966, in Surry County to the late Glade Benjamin “Ben” and Theresa Gay Combs Edwards.  Duane worked in construction for over 20 years, taking off only to care for his late wife Tonya during her battle with ALS.  He was a wonderful husband, father, papa, brother, and friend.  Duane is survived by his children, Benjamin “Benji” Edwards; Jessica Reece and fiancé, Andy Johnson, Mindy Jackson and husband, Daniel, Kristain Akers and husband, Terry; eleven grandchildren; special nephews Aiden and Ezra Edwards and many other nieces and nephews; a caring brother Anthony Edwards and wife Lindsay; a sister Angie Edwards; a sister-in-law, Tammy Watts and husband Bradley.  In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Tonya Holloway Edwards; and a brother, Ricky Edwards; and stepfather, Glenn Edwards.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 5, 2023, at Skyline Memory Garden Pastor Robert Farmer and Anthony Edwards officiating.  There will be no formal visitation prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers the family have requested that memorial contributions may be made to Duane’s son, Benjamin Edwards for medical and personal expenses.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
