Mrs. Phyllis Jean Bowling Bowman, 70, of 4930 Belden Road, Walkertown, passed away Thursday morning, July 12, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bowman was born January 2, 1942, in the town of Pocahontas, Tazewell County, VA, the daughter of the late Paul Cecil and Mary Louise Surber Bowling. She was the co-owner of Bowman's Grocery and J's Seafood in Walkertown and the assistant manager at Roses Department Store in Walkertown. She is survived by her husband, James Arnold Bowman of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dwayne Bowman, Jack and Kathy Bowman, Ronald and Susan Bowman, and Brian and Sarah Burnette Bowman; eleven grandchildren, J. James Bowman and J. Zena Bowman, both of the home, Joshua Bowman, Amber Bowman, Casey Bowman, Tara Bowman, Erica Bowman, Ashley Bowman, Cameron Bowman, Austin Bowman, and Cory Bowman; a great-grandchild, Airy Bowman; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and James Edwards, Janet and Marshall Whitlow, Elladean and Roger Rowe, Elaine and Peewee McGee, and Katherine and Johnny Walker; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Vincent and LuAnn Bowling and Rachel Bowling; her stepmother, Gladys Bowling; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Betsy and Wylie Ramsey, Carol Tompkins, and Frances and Jimmy Whicker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by four brothers, Ricky Bowling, Larry Bowling, David Bowling, and Donald Bowling. The family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012, from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. A private interment will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Evans-Hopkins Breast Cancer Fund, Kernersville Medical Center Foundation, 1750 Kernersville Medical Parkway, Kernersville, NC 27284. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bruce Walley, Dr. Davidson Givens, Dr. Judith Hopkins, Dr. Marc Slatkoff, and Dr. Suzanne Hilton for the loving and compassionate care they provided.
