Mrs. Rachel Stone Phillips, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, May 2, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Phillips was born September 17, 1918, in Surry County, to the late Charlie F. and Susie Jones Stone. She was a homemaker and retired from Cross Creek Apparel. Mrs. Phillips was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived a loving daughter and son-in-law, Betty Sue and Eugene Johnson of Mount Airy; a grandson, Terry Easter of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Jordan Easter of Mount Airy; a step-granddaughter and her husband, Gail and Harold Moorefield of Mount Airy; a step-granddaughter-in-law, Kay Johnson of Charleston, SC; three step-great-grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi and Neil Marion of Winston-Salem, Kelli and David Billings of Shallotte, and Brady Johnson of Charleston, SC; three step-great-great-grandchildren, Ella Marion, Slate Marion, and Luke Billings; a special niece and caregiver, Debbie Overby; and many other special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Johnson Cager Phillips; a step-grandson, Mike Johnson; three sisters, Lena Snow, Clara Woodward, and Annie Phillips; and five brothers, Cliff Stone, Woltz Stone, Fred Stone, Paul Stone, and Arlis Stone. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin and the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
