Rachel Reid Thomas

Mrs. Rachel Reid Thomas, 77, of the Pine Hill community, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Thomas was born March 19, 1938, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Richard Lee and Bessie Fulk Reid. Rachel retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was an active member of Pine Hill Friends Meeting. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Lee Thomas of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Thomas Scott and her husband, Ross Scott, of Dobson; and three grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Scott, Jillian Scott, and Jenny Alyn (Seth) Key, all of Dobson. Mrs. Thomas loved spending time with her seven great-grandchildren: Eli, Maddy, Layla, Mary Elizabeth, Caroline, Gracie, and Riggan. She is also survived by a sister, Judy (Melvin) Lambe of Pilot Mountain; and a brother, Alvin (Janie) Reid of Pilot Mountain. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Renee Thomas; a twin brother, Harold Reid; and a brother, Wallace Reid. A service of worship and celebration of Rachel's life will be held Sunday, August 16, 2015, at 3:30 PM at Pine Hill Friends Meeting in Ararat, with the Rev. Jeff Moran, the Rev. Ray Lambe, the Rev. Michael Thames, and the Rev. Cory Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at Pine Hill Friends Meeting. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the Thomas home at 504 Eldora Road, Ararat. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or the Penny R. Thomas Memorial Scholarship in Nursing, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Office of University Development, 9201 University City Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28223-0001.
