Raymond Cecil Vaughn

Mr. Raymond Cecil Vaughn, age 87 of Claudville passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born on Oct. 14, 1926 in Patrick County to the late Moir W. Vaughn and Sally Dollarhite Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Michael Vaughn; two sisters, Ellen Handy, Vera Burnette; and one brother, Willie C. Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn was a member of Dobyns Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon; was a former Scout Master with the Boy Scouts; was a member of the Patrick County Genealogy Society; served on the Dobyns Community Center Committee; assisted with the Patrick County Heritage Book; received the Tom Downing and Presidents award through the Red Bank Ruritans; and had retired from Bassett Furniture.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Onie Williams Vaughn of the home; two sons and a daughter in law, David and Kathy Vaughn of Radford, James D. "Paycheck" Vaughn, Sr. of Claudville; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Lee McCrickard, James Dillard Vaughn, Jr; 3 great grandchildren, Nicholas Aaron Vaughn, Samantha Nicole Jarrett, Gavin Lee Vaughn; two sisters and a brother in law, Stella and Leon Gusler of Stuart, Jane Lawson of Midlothian; four brothers and sisters in law, Cotton and Ruby Vaughn of Collinsville, Herman Vaughn of Vesta, Ray and Eva Vaughn of Stuart, Leon and Brenda Vaughn of Stuart; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elders Donnie Conner, Tim McGrady, and Milton Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
