Raymond Wesley Wilson

Mr. Raymond Wesley Wilson, 90, of King, went to his heavenly home on Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2026, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem with his family by his side.

Mr. Wilson was born October 24, 1935, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Gorrell Thomas and Lottie Virginia Deatherage Wilson. Mr. Wilson was known by many names; Ray, Raymond, Wesley, Chief, Dad, and Pawpaw. He was very proud of his children and always wanted them to have it better than he did. He loved his grandchildren dearly and will surely be missed by all who knew him.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, enlisting in 1952 and retiring in 1972 as a Fire Control Technician, Chief Petty Officer (“FTGC”). His military service took him around the world, but it was the friendships he made, the experiences he shared, and the lessons he carried home that remained with him through his life. He was also a small project manager, and a finish carpenter, with some years as a truck driver in between. Most importantly, he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Ronnie Wade and Sandra Wilson and Roger Wayne and Melissa Wilson; grandchildren: Ryan Wilson (Paige), Taylor Madison (Jack), Matthew Wolthusen, Rebecca Wolthusen, Annie Wilson, and Alissa Wilson; great grandchildren: Giovanni Wilson and Maeve Wilson; a sister, Wilma Edwards; a brother, Warren Wilson; stepdaughters: Amy Dawson (Kevin), Paula Alberts (Michael), and Jan Horton, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Bessie “Bess” Pack Wilson; and a brothers, Woodrow Wilson and Wallace Wilson.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Pastor Stephen Littlejohn and Ryan Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.
