Rev. Dewey Preston Corn

The Rev. Dewey Preston Corn, 88, of Flat Rock, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County, surrounded by his loving family. The Rev. Corn was born February 29, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Jesse Martin and Lela Ann Ross Corn. He was a retired minister of the gospel, having pastored Lawsonville Church of God for many years. He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Mount Airy Church of God, where he continued with his service to God as long as his health permitted. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 71 years, Mabel Faw Corn of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Hilmer Cummings of the home, April Corn and her special friend, Arnold Nunn, of Mount Airy, and Sherry (Rev. Luke) Pyles of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Frances Corn of Mount Airy; his beloved grandchildren, Darren Corn (fiancée Valeria Cox), Dana (Jim) Burchel, Melanie Pyles, and Amanda (Sparky) Hawks; eight great-grandchildren, Amber Corn, Abbi (Josh) Owens, Jacob Burchel, Mason Corn, Emilee Corn, Ashley Burchel, Bryant Cox, and Sierra Cox; three great-great-grandchildren, Levi Corn, Lindsay Owens, and Hailey Owens; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Mona Faye Horton and her husband, Ken. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Corn was preceded in death by four sisters, Ella Belton, Margie Griffin, Louise Belcher, and Lottie Corn; and a brother, Henry Corn. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Mount Airy Church of God, with the Rev. Charles Powers, the Rev. Homer Lowdermilk, and the Rev. Luke Pyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Mount Airy Church of God, where his body will remain until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Department of Central Continuing Care, 1287 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care for their loving care of the Rev Corn for the past five years. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
