Rev. Edward Leftwich Coins, 80, of Pinnacle passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on July 19, 1934 to the late Hillery and Stella Mae Simmons Coins. Rev. Coins devotedly served as minister at Blue Ridge Tabernacle, New Hope PHC, Donnaha PHC and several other churches during his life while also working and retiring from Brown-Wooten Mills. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his memories are: his caring wife of almost 59 years, Della Marion Coins of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and David Gwynn of Mt. Airy, Vivian and Keith Martin and Susan and Ronald Akers all of Pinnacle; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Tammy Coins of Pinnacle; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Jo Collins of Greensboro, Alma Jean Stilley of Kernersville, Dora and Franklin Danley of Mt. Airy, Linda and Gray Cook of Pinnacle and Cathy and George Horton of Mt. Airy; brothers and sisters-in-law, R.W. and Mary Coins of Pinnacle and Roger and Judy Coins of Huddleston, VA. In addition to his parents, Rev. Coins was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Coins and a brother, J.C. Coins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Mt. Airy First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Brian Frazier, Rev. Hank Robertson, Rev. Tommy Vass and Rev. George Lambeth officiating. Burial will follow at Whitakers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with committal by Rev. Clayton Tilley. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Saturday, September 27, 2014 where he will remain until the time be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
