Rev. Fred G. Fleming

The Rev. Fred G. Fleming, 89, of Mount Airy, husband of Virginia Lawrence Fleming, went to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Fleming was born October 5, 1917, in Surry County, to Fletcher and Cora Edwards Fleming. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. He was retired from Quality Mills. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Mount Airy Wesleyan Church and The Mount Airy Ministerial Association. He was a licensed lay minister in the Wesleyan church for many years. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Lawrence Fleming of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Haywood Vaughn of Mount Airy and Jane and A.J. Cole of King; three grandchildren and spouses, Jay Cole, III and Katie of Pawley's Island, SC, Amy Fuller and Jody of Cedar Grove, TN, and Melinda Eddins and Brad of Winston-Salem; five great-grandchildren, Justin Conrad Eddins, Jackson Cole, A.J. Cole, Kaci Lynn Fuller, and Lia Jane Fuller; two sisters, Lettie Reece of Mount Airy and Louise Fleming of Asheville; and a brother, Gene Fleming of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by six brothers, Paul "Rookie" Fleming, Johnny Fleming, William Fleming, the Rev. Lonnie Fleming, Arthur Fleming, and Bruce Fleming. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Loman, the Rev. Joe Shockley, and the Rev. Bob Josey, and burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, 2063 South Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
