Rev. J. R. Nations, Jr

Rev. John Robert “J. R.” Nations, Jr., age 87, of Dobson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, December 6, 2017 from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Rev. Nations was born in Surry County on August 7, 1930, one of seven children born to the late Rev. John Robert Nations, Sr. and Lenora Wright Nations. Rev. Nations was retired from Consolidated Life Insurance Company. Rev. Nations was ordained in 1965 and was the Assistant Pastor, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher at New Life Baptist Church for many years and was currently a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Gladys Faye Nations, and Joy Lynne Nations Bowman and husband Clifford; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Wayne Nations and wife Diane; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Marjorie Nations Duncan; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Bruce W. Nations and wife Judy, Mary Ida Nations, and Polly Nations Kidwell; a brother-in-law, Albert Draughn; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Nancy White Potter. In addition to his parents, Rev. Nations was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Fannie Irene Cox Nations; a son, Michael Ray Nations; a great-grandson, Saxon Nations; his parents, John Robert Nations, Sr. and Lenora Wright Nations; a sister, Bertha Nations Cox; three brothers, William L. “Billy”, Grady M., and Joe F. Nations; and by a son-in-law, Frank McCraw. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Tim Burton officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitakers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:30 – 3:00 PM and at other times at the home of Joy and Clifford. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Twelve Oaks Memory Care Unit for all of the love and care shown to J. R. during his illness.
