Rev. Newton Anders

Rev. Newton Anders born to Tom and Bessie Anders on August 21, 1926. He served 2 years in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 stationed in Hawaii. On June 28, 1946 he took for his wife Mary Lou Hamm, whom he loved dearly. In his later years he called her his “Jewel”. Born to this union where three sons, Billy, Barry, and Dicky, and one daughter, Vicky “Polly”; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; Newton or Bro. Anders gave his heart to the Lord in 1957. He expected his call into the ministry in 1960 and evangelized until 1962, when he began his pastorial ministry. He pastored in the Church of God of Prophecy from 1962 to 2008. Besides his wife and children his greatest love was being a pastor. He was a true under-shepherd in every since of the word. While pastoring in Mt. Airy the New Church building was built, at Norman they built a new Fellowship. In 2008 when he had a massive heart attack he was no longer about to do what he loved, so he went to live with his daughter who was pastoring at The Church of God in Greenville, NC. There he fell in love with the Church of God people. He became a member of The Church of God in September, 2013. He moved to Reidsville with his daughter in 2014, and fell in love with the Reidsville folks. He truly was a blessing to both churches. During his stay in the hospital at Annie Penn., he still ministered to many souls. It never mattered how sick he became, he never stopped his ministry. There were many days he talked out of his head but when God sent a soul into that room that he could minister to God used him, and when that soul would leave he went right back to talking out of his head. He truly loved God till the end. He ministered from the day he was called by God until the day he died. In addition to his parents, Rev. Anders was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at The Church of God in Reidsville with the Rev. Allen Anders and the Rev. Vernon Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
