Revis Sebron Gentry

Mr. Revis Sebron Gentry, 82, of Cana, VA, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Friday, March 20, 2015. He was born May 1, 1932, in Cumberland County, to the late Robert Lester "Roby" and Delia Maranda Johnson Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with a fantastic sense of humor. His family referred to him as "The Perfect Pa." He owned Gentry Farms and ran the orchards for many years. He was a dedicated member and deacon at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, where he faithfully attended even as his health declined. Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 64 years, Sylvia Vernon Gentry; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jimmy Joyce; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sylvia Gentry; his grandchildren, Randi and Tony Riggs, Adrianne George, Stephen and Julie George, Sean and Kristy-Ann Joyce, and Kim and Danny Lyons; his great-grandchildren, Samantha and Farrah Riggs, Halle and Kady Joyce, Brett and Micah Lyons, and Gabriel and Amelia George; a sister-in-law, Ruth Gentry; special family, Phillip, Roland, Roger, Royce, Christine and J.W. McCraw. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Phillips; a half-sister, Helen Dull; a brother, James Gentry; a very special uncle and cousin, Will Johnson and Thelma Johnson McCraw. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Sechrist and Elder Jimmy Joyce officiating. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with committal by the Rev. Roland McCraw. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 21, 2015, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 506 Alexander Avenue, Durham, NC 27705; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suit 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
