Richard Delano Fulcher, 80 of Critz VA passed away on June 26, 2014, after a short battle with colon cancer. He was born in Horsepasture VA to the late Billy Moir Fulcher & Wilba Gunter Fulcher. He lived most of his life in Martinsville and Collinsville VA. After graduating from Martinsville High School in 1952, he served 3 years with the Virginia National Guard and then reenlisted with the US Air Force with an Honorable Discharge in 1960, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. Since 1960 he attended one year of National Business College and worked for several businesses such as Stanley Furniture, Lynwood Golf & Country Club and some retail businesses. In 1985, he was employed with the VA Department of Corrections Juvenile Division until his retirement in 2000. He had also been employed as a part time deputy for several years with the Henry County Sheriff's Department and was an active member of Friendly Christian Church in Martinsville VA.
He is survived by a son, R. Scott Fulcher, daughter-in-law Susan and grandson Billy Fulcher of Spencer Va. Granddaughter Lauren Fulcher and great grandson Jackson Fulcher of Mebane NC. Special friend, Edna Hall of Stuart, VA. and extended family Jim and Sara Illum of Critz VA. He is also survived by his step-mother Nola M. Fulcher of Stanleytown VA, step-brother Sheldon Nichols of Moneta VA and step-sister Joeann Settle of Kernersville NC.
Richard's wishes were to have his body donated to science so there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the local SPCA or Friendly Christian Church at 735 Friendly Church Rd Martinsville VA 24112.
