Mr. Richard Junior Gwyn, 67, of 131 Jim Reynolds Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Friday afternoon, May 14, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Gwyn was born July 24, 1942, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late Tom David and Nancy Louella Dean Gwyn. Richard retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery after 15 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Barnes Gwyn of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Gwyn of Mount Airy, Sandy and Scott Taylor and Tammy and Wayne Marshall, all of Cana, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Gwyn and Benny and Beth Bowman, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Stacey Nichols, Devon Gwyn, Denny Greene, Austin Hollingsworth, Emma Grace Bowman, Steven Taylor, Will Bowman, and Ben Bowman; three great-grandchildren, Mason Nichols, Callie Nichols, and Alexis Greene; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Audine and Donnie Slate, Julie Hicks, and Ethal and Johnny Slate, all of Mount Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Sheila "Penny" Gwyn of Mount Airy and Dennis and Pauline Gwyn of Fancy Gap, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwyn was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosie Johnson, Lorraine Galyean, and Ila Hall; and a brother, Harvey Gwyn. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 17, 2010, at 2:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hank Robertson and the Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the New Venture Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
