Obituary

Mr. Richard William Katalina of Mount Airy passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on September 14, 2026 at the age of 80. Mr. Katalina was born in Hampden County Massachusetts to the late Mr. and Mrs. Julian and Madeline Bolio Katalina. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will truly be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Katalina proudly served his country as a United States Marine and he would carry the skills, discipline, and structure he learned there his whole life. Mr. Katalina retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, serving as a maintenance worker, a profession he valued deeply as it allowed him to work with his hands, one of his passions. Mr. Katalina was also a member of Dobson Church of Christ where he served on the leadership team. He loved Italian cooking and people would always rave about his meatballs, sauce, and anything else he cooked. He felt that this skill was one of his favorites as it allowed him time to bond with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Mrs. Wanda Katalina; daughters Vonda Jenkins-Kimrey (Carla) and Victoria Wentzel (Richie); granddaughters Carlee Kimrey and Ella Woelk; and grandson Aiden Woelk. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday September 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Dobson Church of Christ, with Reverend Scott Meadows officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday September 19, 2026 from 1:00 until the time of service. At the family’s request, this service will be a true celebration of life, honoring the life, memories, and legacy of Mr. Katalina.
