Richard “Pless” Hodges Jr. 87, of Dobson, North Carolina passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Born March 31, 1938, in Surry County to the late Richard Pless Hodges Sr. and Electer Hodge Hodges. Pless was a farmer and worked in agriculture most of his life. He loved flowers, farming, milking cows, and raising grain. A true professional when it came to cattle, Pless knew everything there was to know about cows and raising them. He was also a member of Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Debra Hunt Hodges; son and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Lynn Hodges and Peggy, and Ann Hodges Atkins; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 stepchildren; 15 step grandchildren; a special step grandchild, Ariana Olvera; and sisters, Lettie Reid, Francis Simmons-Bean, and Yvonne Smith. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rachael Bryant Hodges; son, Alton Pless Hodges; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Bessie Cave, Alice Mitchell, Vallie Bryant, Etta White, and Lois Davis; and brother, Charles Ray Hodges. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church, Thursday, October 23, 2025. A funeral service will take place following the visitation, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the church with Elder Avery Branch and Chris White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hodges will lie-in-state Thursday from 8:00 AM until 11:45 AM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is serving the Hodges family.
