            Mr. Richard Oscar Schofill, II departed this life on Saturday, October 11, 2014.  He was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on April 27, 1959 to Richard Oscar Schofill, Sr. and Willowdean Mowbray Schofill.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard, Jr.

            Richard graduated from Toll Gate High School in Warwick, Rhode Island.  He served in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.  He worked as a welder for General Dynamics/Electric Boat in Quonsett, Rhode Island making nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy.  He worked as a chef, and also as a printer in the printing industry.  Richard studied computer science at Rogers Williams University in Rhode Island, graduated and became a Certified Novell Engineer.  He moved to South Florida and was employed at Sun-Sentinel Newspaper as a Digital Media Technician.  He moved to Stuart in 2007 and started Schofill Farms, LLC with his wife, Patricia.  They raised cattle, corn and hay.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he played guitar.

            Richard was a very talented and versatile artist.  He painted several paintings which he displayed at art shows, many of which were sold.  He attended the Conimicut Art Festival and was accepted into the prestigious regional Scituate Art Festival.  Richard was also a professional musician and went by several different stage names including the name Rachel Rhodes.  He was a very talented guitar player, playing the blues as well as rock, folk and other genres of music.  Richard was also a song writer and wrote many different songs.  He recorded several records with various artists, and played many gigs many different locations including New York City, New York, Warwick, Rhode Island, Linden, New Jersey, Attleboro, Massachusetts, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Greensboro, North Carolina, in and around Stuart, Virginia, as well as many other locations throughout the East Coast.  He was an excellent marksman, shooting many different types of rifle.  He was on several rifle teams and even competed at Camp Perry, Ohio.

            Richard leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patricia Grace Griffith Schofill of Stuart, Virginia; one daughter, Nicole Grace Schofill of Stuart; his parents, Richard Oscar Schofill, Sr. and Willowdean Schofill of Warwick, Rhode Island; two sisters, Kathy Schofill of Warwick; Holly Truesdale and her husband, Bruce Truesdale of New Horizons, Texas; his father-in-law, William Griffith of Linden, New Jersey; brothers-in-law, William Russell Griffith of Linden, New Jersey, Michael Griffith and his wife, Denise Griffith of Hillside, New Jersey, special aunt and uncle, Barbara and Douglas Nowlin of Stuart; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, and other relatives and friends.

            A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Douglas Scales officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.  Burial will be private.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
