Mr. Richard Ray “Skinny” Wagoner, 83, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016 at his home. He was born in Surry County on July 11, 1933 to the late Robert Benton Wagoner, Sr. and Clara Jane Watts Wagoner. Mr. Wagoner was the owner of Wagoner’s Body Shop, a member of the Granite Masonic Lodge #322 for over 25 years, and a member of Dobson Church of Christ. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years wife, Verna Lee Bowman Wagoner of the home; a daughter, Karen Wagoner Montgomery of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Coy Montgomery, Ty Montgomery, and Sadie Montgomery; two sisters and brothers-in-law Willie Ruth and Bobby Dollyhigh and Louise and Rev. Deward Scott both of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Wagoner of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wagoner was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice Lynn Wagoner; two brothers, Robert Benton “Jug” Wagoner, Jr and Edward Carroll Wagoner. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ralph Sproles and Rev. Deward Scott officiating with burial to follow at Skyline Memory Garden with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019 as well as Masonic Rites by Granite Lodge #322 AF & AM. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. Wagoner after the service.
