Robert Bert Ashley, Jr.

Mr. Robert "Bobby" Bert Ashley, Jr., age 59, of Galax, Virginia, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 22, 2026, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mr. Ashley was born May 20, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, (later from Mill Creek, WV) to the late Jack Butcher and JoAnn Wheatley Butcher. He was a loving partner, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Ashley graduated from Nashville auto Diesel College and worked many years as an auto mechanic He loved family more than anything, he especially loved his grandchildren. In his spare time, he could be found at the racetrack watching his son Tyler race limited late models. Left to cherish his memories are his sons and daughter-in-law, Tyler Ashley and fiancé, Hunter Robertson, Austin Atkins and Natasha; daughter, Amanda Workman; grandchildren, Jayson Adams, Ameila Adams, Brantley Atkins, Nolan Atkins, Maverick Atkins, Myla Lou Ashley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy Bryant and Doug, Kimberly McCloud and Ronald; special dog, Blue and special cat, Lilac. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by his longtime partner, Melissa Lou Workman. The family will hold a celebration of Mr. Ashley’s life on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Flat Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to American Stroke Association PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Robertson family and the members of Flat Ridge Baptist Church for all the prayers and support during Mr. Ashley’s sickness.
