Robert Lloyd Hayden

Mr. Robert Lloyd Hayden, 96, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, while at Northern Hospital Skilled Care. Mr. Hayden was born July 16, 1919, in Surry County, the son of the late Ed Robert and Maggie Beatrice Hooker Hayden. Lloyd retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Doug Smith of Pilot Mountain; two granddaughters, Kelly Motsinger and her husband, Chad, and Amanda Cook and her husband, Christopher, all of Pilot Mountain; five great-grandchildren, Cooper Motsinger, Carter Motsinger, Kennedy Cook, Smith Cook, and Salem Cook, all of Pilot Mountain; and a sister, Lola White of Wilmington. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayden was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Lovenia White Hayden; a sister, Inez Jessup; and a brother, Graham Hayden. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kermit L. Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Gail and Doug Smith at 414 Club House Drive, Pilot Mountain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Mary Beasley, Karen Lewis, and Shasta Dalton for the wonderful care given to Mr. Hayden during the last eight years.
