Robert Lee Atkins

Mr. Robert Lee Atkins, 94, of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  He was born in Surry County on January 26, 1928, to the late John Anderson and Edna Nowlin Atkins.  Mr. Atkins was owner-operator of Atkins Exxon and was of the Baptist faith.  He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Kathy Atkins; granddaughter and husband, Amy and Jeffrey Thornburg; step granddaughter, Stephanie and Peter Yang; step great grandchild, Caden Yang; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Belton Atkins; his second wife, Lettie Mae Eades Wilson Atkins; a stepson, Steve Wilson; sisters, Helen Sowers, Audrey Hart, Lillian Casas, Hassie Burton; brothers, Jay F. Atkins, C.S. “Jim” Atkins Kenneth Atkins, Warren Atkins, Porter Atkins, Arthur Atkins, Carlos Atkins, and Harmon Atkins.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Rusty Reed and brother Wade Hawks officiating.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Northern Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, Central Continuing Care, and Yadkin Valley Home Health for the love and care given to Robert.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion Cemetery Maintenance, 115 Six Acres Ln., Mt.
