Mr. Robert Sisk "Bob" Robertson, 94, of 226 Wrenn Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2014, at his home. Mr. Robertson was born October 3, 1919, in Galax, VA, one of eleven children born to the late David A. and Minnie Lee Sisk Robertson. Bob served our country in the United States Army during World War II, among the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Following the war, Bob and his brother, Bill, started a business, Robby's, in Downtown Mount Airy. Soon thereafter, Ted and Curtis joined the family-owned business, with brothers Bruce and Jack joining later on. Eventually, the Robertson family opened six other stores in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Mr. Robertson was member of Mount Airy Friends Meeting. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha E. Robertson of the home and Kathryn R. and Mark Monday of Kent, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Sisk "Jake" Robertson, Jr. and Marsha Robertson of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Melissa Robertson and Justin and Amanda Robertson, all of Mount Airy, Audie and Bethany Monday of Wynnewood, PA, and Adele Monday and her fiancé, Jimmie Rattles, of Athens, GA; three great-grandchildren, Brodie Robertson, Brooks Robertson, and Gibson Robertson, all of Mount Airy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jan Atkins of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hooker Robertson; two sisters, Virginia Robertson Smith and Helen Robertson Wingard; and eight brothers, T.R. "Ted" Robertson, Bruce Robertson, Walter Robertson, James Robertson, Jack Robertson, Billy Robertson, D.A. Robertson, Jr., and Curtis Robertson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Mount Airy Friends Meeting, with Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday immediately following the service at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Tina Leonard, Carol Casstevens, and Rosa Dizon. Also, the family wishes to express their gratitude to Thomas Howard for his tender care of Mr. Robertson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Airy Friends Meeting, 109 West Wilson Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Robertson family.
