Robert Walter Smith

Mr. Robert Walter Smith, 47, of Mt. Airy passed away at Northern Regional December 12, 2019.  He was born in Patrick County, June 9, 1972 to Carolyn and Michael Smith.  Mr. Smith bravely served in the U.S. Marines from 1993 until 1996.  He was an active member of the DAV since 2000, and served in various offices.  Mr. Smith was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  He is survived by his daughter, Carmen Smith and her mother, Candace Smith; his mother and step-father, Carolyn Stowe and Blaine; father and step-mother, Michael Corby Smith and Beth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mitchell and Beverly Smith, Christopher and Kristin Owens, William Smith, Brandon and Rachel Smith, Jared Stowe; father-in-law, Larry Gwyn, sister-in-law, Torie Gwyn; brother-in-law, Matthew Gwyn; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a step-father, Phillip Owens; a step-sister, Shaunica Stowe; and mother-in-law, Sheila Penny Gwyn.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Edwards officiating.  Full military rites will be performed by the VFW Honor Guard Mt.
