Rev. Rodger Lee Easter
Pastor Rodger Lee Easter, age 68, of Mount Airy North Carolina passed precipitously on Friday, May 31, 2024, surrounded by his staunched wife and closest family members. Rodger was born August 30, 1955, in Pittsylvania Co. Danville, Virginia to the late Russell Lee Easter and Myrtle Brummett Easter of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Rodger was preceded in death by his oldest and beloved daughter, Tiffany Easter; sister, Linda Shew Thompson. Of whom we know that he is rejoicing in Heaven with all of them today. While being a prodigious husband to his loving right hand, Gail Hazelwood Easter for the last 34 years and sharing a life full of adventure. He was a father, teacher, and guider to two more daughters, Tracy Elliott Wood and Barry, Brandy Elliott Strickland and Jonathan. So many roles for one man, but the hat that he cherished and held most dear was that of the role of being “PAPA”. His grandsons were his pride and joy. Logan Conner Wood, Landon Coley Wood both of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Tryston Strickland of Galax, Virginia, Jacob Handy of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Austin Handy of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Rodger also cherished the love of his older brother Russell Junior Easter and wife Barbara of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Seven dear brothers-in-law, 5 precious sisters-in-law, and very special aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Not to mention the bond that he had with the countless close friends that he would call daily. This world lost a true shining light for Christ this week. One that was devoted to his savior since he was 14 years old. One that gave his whole life to telling people about Jesus through music, preaching, teaching, food ministry, a bus ride, a quick phone call to just see how you were and if you needed anything. He is now with his Savior, he will be truly missed by all his family, friends and his church and community. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Miracle Waters Worship Center from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the church with the Rev. Barry Wood, Rev. Jonathan Strickland, and Rev. Harvey Hazelwood officiating. An entombment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Easter family.
