Roger Sherman Golden

Mr. Roger Sherman Golden, 78 of Mount Airy, went to be with his heavenly father Saturday, July 25, 2026. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long health battle and hospitalization. Mr. Golden was born January 8, 1948, in Lambsburg, VA to the late Harlie Sherman Golding and Beatrice May Golding. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Golding. Roger was a veteran of the United States Army, a long-time member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the choir. He was a loving husband, father, and Papa who loved serving the Lord. He was an avid Yankees fan, loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He always had a loving heart and a smile on his face and loved making those around him laugh. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Vera Handy Golden; son, Roger Steven Golden; two daughters, Penny and Greg Flippen, and Debbie Slate and the late Tommy Slate; 5 grandchildren, Dalton Golden, Sarah Golden, Tisha Hawks, Josh Slate, and Kristy Pedrotty; 8 great-grandchildren, Alice, Ellie, Lelia, Charlotte, Lynzee, Leelan, Hudson, and Presli; special ex daughter-in-law, Allison Johnson; and 3 special friends, Everette Lawson, Freddie Anglin, and Danny Greenwood. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Bill Spurlin and Pastor TJ Spurlin officiating. The burial will then follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery on Pipers Gap Road. The Golden family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, July 29, 2026, from 6:00pm until.
