Roger Lee Lyons, 87, of Lexington, NC, passed peacefully May 15, 2026. Born April 30, 1939, he graduated from Mount Airy High School and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served in North Africa. He belonged to the United Church of Christ, once serving as a deacon. Roger was a man of many talents. He dedicated his professional career to the NCDOT, retiring from the materials and test division. Roger’s passions included: flying as a private pilot, playing his guitar, golfing, raising strawberries, fishing and target shooting. Surviving is the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Pulliam Lyons; sister and brother-in-law, Paula Whitaker Norman and Steve of Elkin; aunt Marie Nixon of Hamptonville; nephews, Clint Whitaker and Jenny of Mooresville, and Brandon Whitaker and Kimberly of Elkin; as well as a host of cherished cousins and friends. He was close to his younger brothers-in-law, Ricky Pulliam of Lexington, and Tony Pulliam of Roxboro. Roger is preceded in death by his mother Ruby Nixon Jessup and Elmo; stepfather, Mallory Clinton Fowler; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Banks and Bill of Mt. Airy; and uncle Frank Nixon of Hamptonville. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Well Care Home Health of the Triad and the dedicated team at Senior Helpers of Salisbury for their exceptional care and support during Roger’s final days. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service. The funeral will take place, following the visitation at 2:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Tejado Hanchell officiating. A private burial for family will follow in the Mountain Park Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials be made to Well Care Hospice of the Triad and or Mountain Park Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is serving the Lyons family.
