Mr. Roger Lee Nixon, 68, of 157 Williamson Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Nixon was born September 27, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Elwood and Rena Calloway Nixon. Mr. Nixon served our country in the United States Army. After his retirement from Mount Airy Furniture Company, Roger owned and operated Nick's Variety Barn for several years. He was later employed with Mount Airy Oil Company until his health declined. He was a faithful member and deacon of Highland Park Baptist Church. He served in many capacities throughout the church, including treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Nixon Nixon of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debbie Nixon of Mount Airy; a daughter, LeeAnn Nixon of Mount Airy; a grandson, Landon Holmes of Mount Airy; a sister, Betty Nixon Wilson of Winston-Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Norris and Barbara Nixon and Jimmy and Glenda Nixon, all of Mount Airy; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Ethel Nixon of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nixon was preceded in death by two brothers, David Gray Nixon and Wayne Elwood Nixon. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. David Brady and Dr. Ray Hamilton. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2006, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
