Roger Lee Stone

Mr. Roger Lee Stone, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, November 16, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Stone was born May 11, 1950, in Grayson County, VA, the son of the late Fredrick Henderson “Fred” Stone and Thelma Geneva Fulk Stone Johnson. Roger grew up in Mount Airy and graduated from North Surry High School in 1968. After his high school graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving with distinction in the Vietnam War. After returning home, Roger continued to serve his community, working as a roofer and carpenter for many years. He later began a fulfilling career at Northern Regional Hospital, where he worked for more than 30 years. His dedication and unwavering commitment to the hospital and the well-being of others made him a respected figure among colleagues and friends alike. A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hilda Moseley Stone; a son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Spencer Stone; a grandson, Cooper Wilson Stone; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Louis Senter; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mary Stone; a half-sister, Barbara George; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stone was preceded in death by a son, Gregg Wilson Stone; a sister, Betty Jo Coleson; and two half-sisters, Colene Crouse and Agnes Thompson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Dobson Church of Christ, with the Rev. Scott Meadows and the Rev. Scott Coleson officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 until 1:00 PM at Dobson Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
