Roland Lee Chilton

Mr. Roland Lee Chilton, age 86 of Pilot Mountain passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Chilton was born on January 28, 1939, in Surry County to the late Dewey Elbert and Bertha Mae Jessup Chilton. Roland was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Donnie Martin and Kimberly, Ronnie Martin and Teresa; five grandchildren, Mandy Rollans and Ashley, Matthew McMillian and Angela, Daniel Chilton, Morgan Butler and Hanna, Allison Bagley and Kamrn; several other grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Michael Butler, David McMillian; a brother and sisters-in-law, Otis Chilton and Carole, Linda Chilton; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his first wife, Roxie Alice O’Neal Chilton; his second wife, Carrie Imogene Key Chilton; two daughters, Fonda Jean Chilton Butler, Roxie Allison Chilton McMillian; a son, Roland Christopher “Chris” Chilton; a step-son, Daniel Thomas Martin; grandson, David “Bumper” McMillian; sisters, Helen, Judy, Betty, Avanelle; and brothers, Hollace, Larry, and Paul. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Dr. Joey Jessup and Bro. Charlie Newman officiating. Interment will follow in the Ararat Cemetery in Ararat, North Carolina. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Victory Baptist Church from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving support provided to Mr. Chilton during his illness.
