Roy Daniel Lakey

Mr. Roy Daniel Lakey, 93, of 771 Hamburg Street, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at Village Care of King. Mr. Lakey was born March 3, 1919, in Surry County, the son of the late Lonnie and Annie McCann Lakey. Roy served our country in the United States Army. He retired from Bassett Furniture after many years of service and was a founding member of the Mount Airy Rescue Squad. He is survived by a sister, Laura Lakey Karriker of Gastonia; a brother and sister-in-law, Quiller Lincoln and Vivian Lakey of Mount Airy; special cousins, Margie Davis, Rodney, Marlene, and Kelli Nance, and Peter and Elizabeth Davis, all of Mount Airy; and a faithful companion/pet, Buzzard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lakey was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Virginia Craddock Lakey; two sisters; and three brothers. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Chris Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
