Mr. Rubin Wilmoth Gardner, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Gardner was born January 5, 1939, in Yadkin County, to Vetral Brown Gardner and the late Maxton Gardner. He worked for Proctor-Silex Inc. before becoming disabled and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Peggy Hawks Gardner of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and James Billings of State Road and Robin and Joshua Hardin of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Dustin Moore of the home and Landon Hardin of Mount Airy; his mother, Vetral Brown Gardner of Hamptonville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucy and Roger Swain of Hamptonville, Issy and Ricky Hinshaw of Boonville, and Nellie and Benny Norman of Clemmons; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerald and Kim Gardner and Coy and Marilyn Gardner, all of Hamptonville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Sue Gardner; and a brother, George Irvin "Sonny" Gardner. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 2, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
