Mrs. Ruby Harrison Shores Holyfield, 95, of Elkin was carried away on Angel's wings to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Holyfield was born in Surry County on September 18, 1918 to the late Byrd and Ida Williamson Harrison. She was a faithful member of Snow Hill Baptist Church as long as her health permitted, and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after forty years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Laura Imogene "Jean" Shores Hardy; her beloved grandchildren, Debbie Hardy Branch and husband Mike and Ricky Dale Hardy and wife Cathy, all of Dobson; five great-grandchildren, Jody Branch, Jeremy Branch, Ramsey Embry, Sterling Hardy and Koren Hardy, four great-great grandchildren Keira Branch, Bella Branch, Autumn Embry and Remington Embry; step-daughter Kathy and husband Kenneth Ridenhour of Dobson; a step-son, Leon and wife Sara Holyfield of Dobson; four step-grandchildren, Lisa Byrd, Jan Wheeles, Marty Cook and Michelle White; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; four step great-great grandchildren, a brother, John D. and wife Juanita Harrison of State Road; special nieces, Ida Mae Hutchins and Patricia Pettry and a special friend, Patricia Harrison. In addition to her parents, her husbands, Bonson Shores and Floyd Holyfield, a sister, Gladys White and a brother, Audy Harrison preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Snow Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Key and Rev. Jason Johnson with burial to follow in Charity Hill Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Snow Hill Baptist Church, 222 Snow Hill Church Lane, Dobson, NC 27017.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for their loving, compassionate care.
