Ruby Gay Roberson Slaughter

Ruby Gay Roberson Slaughter, 92, entered into eternal peace to join her dear husband, on September 30, 2015, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with her loving daughter, her best friend at her bedside.

Mrs. Ruby was the precious mother of Annetta Lind and husband, Jeff, of Stuart and the beloved grandmother of Corey Lind of Martinsville and his fiancé, Tasher Willet. Also surviving are her sister, Dorothy Reid of Melbourne, FL, a step-grandson and wife, Jeff and Moira Lind and three step-great grandchildren of Lindenhurst, IL, two sisters-in-law, Blondell Wright of Collinsville and Hertha Hetrick of New Oxford, PA, a brother-in-law Eldred Slaughter and wife, Jan, of Staunton, several nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Shirley Trent of Stuart.
Mrs. Ruby was born in Stuart on October 16, 1922, the youngest daughter of Charles B. and Lurinda Handy Roberson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Lestell E. Slaughter, her dear son, Glenn Slaughter, a step-granddaughter Heather Patterson, three brothers, Fay, John and Greely Roberson, four sisters, Etta Reynolds, Hallie Handy, Myrtle Reynolds, and an infant sister. She was a life-long member of Stuart Primitive Baptist Church, where she was treasurer for most of her life.
Nothing meant more to Mrs. Ruby than her family and she devoted her life to their happiness and well-being. She was a helpmate to her husband during his career and remained proprietor of the mobile home park he established. Her unselfish acts of love and kindness were evident to everyone who knew her, and her absence from our lives will leave a huge void.
Funeral services will be held at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Monday, October 5, 2015, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dewayne Troutt and Elder Gleason Worrell officiating. Family hour will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Roberson Family Cemetery. Please make any donations to the donor’s choice, as she loved her church and was burdened by anyone’s hunger and destitution. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
