Ruby Stone Simmons Smith

On April 6, 2025, Ruby Stone Simmons Smith went home to be with the Lord, and though Heaven gained a jewel, her light and memory remain with us here. Perhaps Roy and Carlyne Stone glimpsed into the future and saw the remarkable woman their little girl would become—so they named her Ruby: precious, vibrant, full of warmth and fire. Ruby walked hand in hand with Jesus for 86 years on this earth. She didn’t waste a moment. Ruby wasn’t content to just live her life as a pilgrim passing through. No, she invested her passion and joy into the lives of her family and friends. Ruby was vibrant. No family gathering, celebration, or outing was complete without her light. On each occasion no matter how small, she took special care to dress her best, share her wit and wisdom, and remind those around her of how deeply she loved them. Ruby showed up for people. As a cherished sister, aunt, Mawmaw, second mother, and friend, she shined. Anyone lucky enough to be in Ruby’s circle knew they would be loved fiercely, spoiled often, prayed for consistently, and yes—expected to cheer for the Carolina Tar Heels. A faithful servant of God, Ruby shared her love for Christ not just in words, but through action, song, and prayer. She carried herself with a quiet dignity that mirrored her faith. Like a true Southern gem, she honored God with her choices, served others with a generous heart, and always stood true to her word. Along with Ruby’s undeniable warmth came her fire. Her spark lived in the snap of her humor, the set of her jaw, and the twinkle in her eye. She could make you double over in laughter or shake your head at her legendary stubbornness. And that sass? It only grew stronger with time. Even when illness tried to dull her light, Ruby’s spirit refused to fade. She stayed bold, spunky, and full of life - on her terms. When Jesus called Ruby home, she recognized His voice instantly. After all, it was the voice she had listened to all her life. She stepped into Glory just as she lived - dressed to perfection, praising His name, and ready to love without end.Funeral services will be held at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at 2:00pm with Will Eads officiating.
