Russell Odele Smith

Mr. Russell Odele Smith, 77, of Ararat, VA, passed away Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro.  Mr. Smith was born June 29, 1945, in Patrick County, VA, to the late J.D. and Ellie Mae Young Smith.  Russell retired as an outdoor activity guide from Primland Golf and Spa Resort.  He is survived by a daughter, Gladys Annette Griffith; two sons, James Russell Smith and Sammy Smith; seven grandchildren, Austin Smith, Ryan Smith, Taylor Arnder, Kennith Griffith, Samantha Griffith, Toby Collins, and Heath Reynolds; nine great-grandchildren, Chase Griffith, Chance Griffith, Lane Griffith, Brooklyn Smith, Riley Morgan, Ivy Griffith, Jayson Logan, Autumn Nance, and Brice Nance; a sister, Vera Hopkins; and a brother, Ray Smith.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Eva Goins Smith; two grandchildren, Andrew Smith and Eric Griffith; and two brothers, Robert Smith and Raymond Smith.  The funeral service will be held Monday, June 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. James Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
