Mrs. Ruth Betty Jones Hower, 96, of Mount Airy, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Monday night, March 19, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Hower was born October 24, 1921, in Philadelphia, PA, the younger of two daughters born to the late Harold Melvin and Elsie Ethel Heavlow Jones. Ruth was a traveling deputy, register of wills department, through the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, PA, for 20 years. She was a dedicated Christian and a member of Saint Andrew Lutheran Church. Throughout her husband’s longstanding chiropractic career, she was a member and past president of The Pennsylvania Chiropractor Association Women’s Auxiliary. Ruth was also a member of the Mount Airy Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Michael Gore of Pinnacle; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert William and Gail Richard Hower of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Dawn Hower, Amy Elizabeth Hower, Alisun Ruth Gore Boldrini, Elsbeth Catherine Gore Chaney, and Robin Michael Gore; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hower was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Robert Otto Hower; and a sister, Beatrice Naomi Jones Taunton. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is in charge of the cremation and serving the family.
