Sadie Johnston Bryant passed away peacefully in her sleep on Christmas Eve, three days shy of her 90th birthday. She was in the hospital, visited by and Face Timing with her family throughout the day, laughing and joking as was her usual self. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength. Before COVID, she enjoyed attending Oak Grove Baptist Church and was an active participant at the Senior Activity Center, often picking up others along the way. She proudly won medals in their own style of Senior Olympics, enjoyed road trips, and affectionately referred to their little group as the “Recycled Teenagers.” She loved and appreciated her family and neighbors, especially the young man who tended her farmland, and always welcomed them in her home. Her family recalls her famous fried apple pies, homemade biscuits, and cornbread, which were unmatched and fondly remembered by all who ever tasted them. Sadie found joy in life’s simple pleasures and never met a stranger, engaging in conversations while standing in the check-out line. She enjoyed a good meal, was a master of word search puzzles, rarely leaving one unfinished, had a deep love of reading, with piles of books to match, and enjoyed beautiful flowers, especially purple roses. Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Weldon Bryant; her parents, George Wilson Johnston and Allie Lee Reece Johnston; and was the last surviving sibling of fifteen brothers and sisters. Sadie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Johnston Fleming (husband Nick Fleming), Freda Bryant, and Nancy Felts (Glen). She leaves behind her “favorite” grandson, as she proudly introduced him, Beau Fleming (wife Sophia Fleming), along with granddaughters Sherrie Bryant, her precious Victoria Bryant, Tasha Whitt (husband Mikey), and her great-granddaughter, Alexus. Sadie’s life was one of quiet service and deep love of family. Though her memory faded near the end, she always recognized her loved ones and remained herself—joking, laughing, and sharing joy until her final day. She will be remembered for her sweet and kind nature, her warmth and humor, and the gracious love she extended to everyone she met. Gone but not forgotten. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, 2:00 PM at Ivy Green Baptist Church, 818 Old Low Gap Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 with Rev. Jimmy McCraw officiating. The family will visit at the graveside after her service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sadie’s memory to the Dementia Society of America® at www.dementiasociety.org or the American Heart Association at www.heart.org. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Bryant family.
