Sadie Taliferro Patrick Hays

Mrs. Sadie Taliferro Patrick Hays of 542 Allred Mill Road, Mt. Airy, NC passed away Wednesday morning, September 13, 2006 at Surry Community Nursing Center. She was born in Jacksonville, FL October 24, 1912 to Sadie Jones Patrick and Glenn Newton Patrick, where she was a member of the Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn N. Patrick, Jr. and her husband, Horace K. Hays. She is survived by one daughter, Joy P. Snow and her husband, Pat J. Snow, of Mt. Airy, NC, grandsons, Bob McKagen and wife, Lauren of Powder Springs, GA, Marty McKagen, Lawrenceville, GA, Michael McKagen, Boone, NC, and a granddaughter, Cindy Greene and husband, Gil Greene of Jupiter, FL, great grandchildren, Sarah, Matt, and Scott McKagen of Powder Springs, FL, and Gilbert and Christina Joy Greene of Jupiter, FL, step grandchildren, Mitch Snow and wife Kini Snow with children, Ethan Edwards and Mally Snow, Lisa Blevins, and husband, Mark, with son, Jon Patrick and Karen Snow, all of Mt. Airy, NC, Sadie was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. After attending Meredith College, she was married to John Henry Hodges of Jacksonville. She remarried in 1945 to Horace K. Hays of Coral Gables, FL. Mr. and Mrs. Hays lived in Coral Gables until Mr. Hays retired from Pan American Bank of Miami. They then owned and operated the Mafolie Hotel on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands for 10 years. They enjoyed traveling until the death of Mr. Hays. Sadie then moved to Jupiter, FL for several years, then moved Mt. Airy, NC where she resided at Ridgecrest Retirement Community and then Surry Community Nursing Center. Sadie was an avid shopper and was always known for looking as though she had just stepped out of a fashion magazine. In memory of her compassion for animals, memorials are requested to be sent to your local Animal Shelter or Humane Society. The family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 PM Friday night, September 15, 2006 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL at a later date.
