Mrs. Sallie Jearlene Hawks Edwards Farris, age 78 of Cana, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Farris was born on October 4, 1947, in Carroll County to the late Jonah Gilbert and Ellen Louvinia Hawks Hawks. Sallie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Edwards, sons and daughter-in-law, Rodney Edwards, Jeffery Edwards and Tina; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy Easter and Dale, Alisha Edwards and Timmy, Rodney Edwards, Jr. and Kayla, James Estep, Jr., Holly Estes, Colby Edwards, Casey Estes; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Hawks; sister-in-law, Polly Hawks; brother-in-law, Troy Edwards; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farris was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Weldon Edwards; her second husband, Lewis Farris; three sisters, Helen Isabell Hawks Edwards, Ethel Hawks Edwards, Mary Maude Hawks Edwards; and five brothers, Robert “Bob” Steve Hawks, John Henry Hawks, Jessie Hawks, and Junior “Blacky” Hawks, and Clarence Hawks. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church with Elder V.J Hawks and Pastor Michael Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. The family would like to thank Wendy Easter for the devoted and loving care she provided for her grandmother. Additionally, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Andrea and Allison, for the love and compassionate care provided to Mrs. Farris during her illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy have been entrusted with the arrangements.
